Remembering the Past

Our graduating bilingual history class 8ab visited the ‚Anschlussdenkmal‘ as part of their history lessons and explored the complex history of this site. Working in groups and in English, students used the 2019 materials initiated by Dr. Ursula Mindler-Steiner and others, created as part of the project ‚Darüber reden …‘ to complete some assignments.
Together, the students examined the memorial’s dimensions, its political origins and the reasons for its erection, Burgenland between 1938-1945, and the memorial’s history and commemoration after 1945. Their thoughtful discussions showed how careful historical inquiry can help us engage with the past and reflect on how it is remembered. 🕯️
